Intermediate/Senior Law Clerk

We are seeking a bright civil litigation law clerk with at least 5+ years of experience to work in our Toronto office. Working under two busy associates, the ideal candidate should be organized, have excellent professional and interpersonal skills and an ability to work well under pressure with a large volume of work while maintaining priorities. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, proficient document formatting abilities, and the ability to balance their workload and respond to routine tasks with minimal supervision.

Primary Duties Include

• Minimum 5 years of Litigation experience
• Confident and dependable, with strong initiative and ability to work both independently and in a team oriented atmosphere
• Organize and maintain client files
• Experience liasing with clients, insurance adjusters and defence counsel
• Prepare and edit correspondence and legal documents
• Assist with authorizations, undertakings, discoveries and productions
• Drafting pleadings, routine motions, affidavits of documents, pre-trial/mediation memos, etc.
• Reviewing and summarizing medical documentation
• Trial preparation
• Responsible for tracking limitation periods
• Prior experience working with Ontario & Superior Court of Justice
• Draft and respond to correspondence
• Initiate follow-up as required and communicate with clients
• Calendar management, scheduling meetings and arrange examinations for discovery and mediations
• Coordinate and monitor administrative functions to ensure completion of work accurately and in a timely manner
• Act as liaison between clients and lawyers
• Other duties as required

Required Experience/Skills/Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Litigation experience
• Experience in managing a busy litigation practice
• Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
• Must thrive under pressure and prioritize effectively while paying attention to details
• Ability to draft and send out correspondence with minimal supervision
• Proficiency with Tickler System, PC law and Microsoft Office Suite

• Confident and dependable, with strong initiative and ability to work both independently and in a team oriented atmosphere

• Assist with authorizations, undertakings, discoveries and productions

• Completion of OCF forms for Accident Benefits claims
• Preparation and filing of License Appeal Tribunal (LAT) Case Conference and Hearing briefs
• Draft and respond to correspondence
• Initiate follow-up as required and communicate with clients
• Calendar management, scheduling meetings and arrange examinations for discovery and mediations
• Coordinate and monitor administrative functions to ensure completion of work accurately and in a timely manner
• Act as liaison between clients and lawyers
• Other duties as required

Required Experience/Skills/Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Litigation and Accident Benefits experience
• Experience in managing a busy litigation practice
• Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and Statutory Accident Benefits schedule
• Must thrive under pressure and prioritize effectively while paying attention to details
• Paralegal diploma is an asset
• Experience with plaintiff personal injury and CAT files is a bonus
• Ability to draft and send out correspondence with minimal supervision
• Proficiency with Tickler System, PC law and Microsoft Office Suite
